Mastering the Art of Stress Management

You may have often heard from your elders and teachers to do physical work, which not only keeps your body healthy but at the same time takes care of your mental health too

January 15, 2026 | Farhad Ahmad Pir

Stress is an omnipresent force in our lives, and we cannot completely escape its clutches. People across all sections of society, from the affluent to the lower strata, are affected by the pressures of daily responsibilities. Not a single person can live without stress. However, it's important to recognize that stress can also act as a potent motivator, driving us to confront challenges and achieve our goals.

Turning Stress into Motivation

Stress doesn’t always have to be a storm in the weather. Instead, view it as a wind that can propel you forward. With the right approach, stress can drive you to achieve your goals and manage tasks more effectively. Stress of anything prepares you and seeks indispensable attention from you to handle any assignment. It is only stress that makes you conscious every time of completing your assignments in time. Provided you take stress as a positive force in the everyday tasks of your life. It can serve as a powerful push towards achieving your goals. You just think it is easy going and can be released by certain physical acts like jogging, morning walk, doing meditation etc. When you do any such physical act, like a morning walk, your body gets relaxed and you feel refreshed and your concentration level increases. In such state of mind, when you approach the task that has earlier created stress in you, it becomes easy and you accomplish it. Looking at the stress positively, it prepares you to become more concerned about your assignment.
You may have often heard from your elders and teachers to do physical work, which not only keeps your body healthy but at the same time takes care of your mental health too. Stress really wants you to work hard and forces you to begin and take your work more seriously. Any person who says, I do not get stressed, may be lying and trying to be overconfident. Having this mindset, he might be losing all the benefits and may not be performing the task properly unlike the person who takes stress in a positive way.

A Personal Transformation

Let me share a story about my own experience. I used to stay up late at night, which naturally caused me to wake up late in the morning. Despite telling myself each night that I would rise early and complete my pending tasks, I rarely managed to get up as planned. This failure to adhere to my schedule created a sense of tension and stress. Additionally, sleeping late left me feeling unrefreshed and fatigued, which in turn made my day unproductive and frustrating. I found myself sitting idle at the workplace.
One day, while I was waiting at a bakery to buy bread (lavasas), I encountered several people, including someone whom I knew well who was also waiting. He was drenched in sweat, and beads of sweat were rolling his forehead that morning. Curious, I asked him about it. He told me it was because of walking. He explained that he goes for a morning walk regularly despite his busy schedule. He looked completely slim and healthy, and upon hearing about my struggles, he suggested that I try this practice. He assured me that I would notice improvements within a week.
Taking his advice to heart, I decided to wake up early the next morning and go for a brisk walk. I enjoyed the fresh air and the sound of birds chirping. During these walks, I met various people and even made new connections. Over time, I found walking beneficial, and I established a routine with a couple of friends who joined me regularly.
True to his word, after just one week, I noticed significant improvements in both my physical and mental health. My productivity increased, and I became more organized. I adjusted my sleep schedule to go to bed early and wake up early, leading to a refreshed and energetic start to my day. This change brought a positive shift in my overall well-being, making me feel as fresh as a spring morning.

Practical Tips for Managing Stress

There are many tips but here are some that are practically proven. You may have learned from my personal incident how physical activity, like walking, boosts both physical vitality and mental clarity. Alongside, even offering morning prayer, running, and joining a gym should be better choices. There are various other methods, but these are best for beginners.

Social Connection

In a world where digital interactions often replace face-to-face communication, maintaining meaningful relationships is vital. Engaging with friends and family can provide emotional support and help manage and moderate stress. You may have heard elders often say, go out, take fresh air, do not suffocate yourself in the room. This means that when you step outside your home, you are likely to meet someone.
You may enjoy your own company, but it is almost certain that you will encounter someone with whom you exchange a few words. Even if it is only a greeting like Assalam Alaikum, How are you? Have some tea. No, thanks. I’m fine. Such brief interactions matter in daily life.
As you move forward, you may meet someone you know well or someone close to you. You might shake hands or even give a hug, especially if you are meeting after a long time. Later, you may choose to spend time with someone who shares similar tastes, someone with whom you feel comfortable.
Having conversations, shaking hands, exchanging greetings, sitting together, having a cup of tea, and embracing one another, all these simple acts help in lifting your mood. Conversations with people who share similar tastes, these simple acts pull you out of mental fog. Connectivity on social platforms is cheap. Real connection, real touch, and real words are what sustain us. The digital divide has surrounded us on a large scale, making it complicated to maintain social connections. At least, we can start by strengthening connections within our own families.
As time progresses, you will likely observe significant improvements both in physical and mental health. At the outset, practicing one of the activities, over time, realization may inspire you to explore additional methods for enhancing your well-being. You will enjoy and begin practicing other ways to act. By the time being, their positive impact will become more apparent, and your well-being will motivate others.
By committing to these approaches, you pave the way for a healthier, more balanced life and open yourself up to discovering even more ways to foster personal growth and resilience.
