
Adnan Naeem Asmi belongs to the Indian Police Service, batch 2013, Andhra Pradesh cadre, and is now posted as Superintendent of Police, West Godavari District. A native of Nawakadal in Srinagar, Kashmir, Asmi has steadily risen through the ranks, earning distinction for his leadership in both field operations and administrative policing.
Born into a family of educators and professionals, his grandfather was a Professor of English Literature in Jammu and Kashmir, his father a banker, and his mother a homemaker, Asmi’s academic journey began at Tyndale Biscoe School, Srinagar, where he completed his schooling up to Class X. He pursued his higher secondary education at SP College, Srinagar, securing the first position in the Arts stream and receiving a Gold Medal from the then Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
He pursued and obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Programme) from St. Stephen's College, Delhi. While at the college, he was elected as a community representative in his first and second years and served as College President in his final year. Later, he obtained a Master's in Political Science from Indira Gandhi National Open University.
After two previous attempts, Asmi succeeded in clearing the Civil Services Examination in 2013 and joined the Indian Police Service. His career thus started with a posting as an Assault Commandant in the elite Greyhounds force, India’s premier anti-Naxal unit. He subsequently served as Assistant Superintendent of Police, Rampachodavaram, and as Officer on Special Duty, Kadapa.
He subsequently served as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Visakhapatnam, and as Superintendent of Police, East Godavari District, one of the biggest districts in Andhra Pradesh. He came back to the Greyhounds as Group Commandant before being posted to the Anti-Corruption Bureau. He then served as Superintendent of Police, Krishna District, and now leads the police force in West Godavari district.
Asmi has been granted the Antar Suraksha Medal by the Government for his exemplary service in Naxal-affected areas. He is also a recipient of the Special Investigation Medal from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
