
A high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, and Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) was held on Thursday at the DC Office to discuss solutions for the growing traffic congestion in the city.
The meeting was attended by key officials including SSP Traffic, Aijaz Ahmad; Additional Deputy Commissioners, Mir Imtiyaz Ul Aziz and Aadil Fareed; Regional Transport Officer Kashmir, Qazi Irfan; Chief Planning Officer, Fayaz Ahmad Dar; Superintending Engineers from R&B South and North, Tatheer Manzoor and Shabir Ahmad, along with other concerned officers.
Key agenda points discussed included the establishment of dedicated bus stops, re-evaluation of contract carriage permits, implementation of one-way traffic on selected routes, and the regulation of e-rickshaws. The meeting also explored options for additional road connectivity projects, alternate road routes, and the creation of more parking facilities.
The officials emphasized the importance of ensuring reliable public transport and finding effective measures to reduce traffic jams, especially during peak hours. The establishment of a sustainable framework for e-rickshaw operations was also stressed, with an aim to improve road safety and public convenience while maintaining traffic discipline.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed the establishment of a District Excellence Centre at the Regional Transport Office in Srinagar. The participants agreed on the need for coordinated efforts to improve transport infrastructure and ensure smoother traffic flow in the city.
