
The cold wave conditions tightened grip over Kashmir as most places recorded a sharp dip in minimum temperatures last night with Shopian being the coldest place in the Valley with night temperature dropping to -6.6°C.
Srinagar recorded a low of –4.4°C, marking another icy morning for residents.
In Pahalgam tourist resort in south Kashmir, night temperature settled at–5.6°C, Kupwara –5.0°C.
The night temperature at Pampore and Anantnag both dropped to –6.0°C.
Shopian was the coldest place in the Valley with night temperature settling at –6.6°C.
In Baramulla night temperature dipped to –6.4°C.
The ski resort of Gulmarg recorded a low of–1.4°C.
In Qazigund and Awantipora, the night temperature settled at –3.0°C and –4.4°C respectively. Meanwhile, Zojila Pass froze at an extreme –15.0°C.
Meanwhile, the MeT official said weather across Jammu and Kashmir is expected to remain largely dry till December 5.
A MeT official said generally, dry conditions will prevail till December 3.
“December 4 and 5 are likely to remain mostly cloudy, particularly from the evening of December 4, with the possibility of a brief spell of light snowfall at isolated higher reaches,” he said.
The MeT official said from December 6 to December 10, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy across the Union Territory.
“Cloudy conditions are also likely to continue on December 11 and 12,” he said.
The MeT official said shallow to moderate fog is likely to persist at many places in Kashmir and at isolated locations in the Jammu division, particularly during the nighttime and early morning hours. Locals have been advised to exercise caution while travelling in areas prone to poor visibility.
