Srinagar, Aug 29: The Meteorological Department has predicted hot and humid conditions across Jammu over the next 10 days with brief spells of rain and thundershowers at scattered places.
“The weather is expected to remain mostly hot and humid, with brief spells of rain and thundershowers likely at scattered places during the period,” a MeT official said.
He said on August 29-30, generally hot and humid condition is expected with brief spell of rain/thundershower at scattered places towards early morning & afternoon hours.
“On august 31- Sept 1, there will generally be hot & humid conditions with one or two spells of light to moderate Rain/thundershowers at many places with brief intense showers and heavy showers towards early morning and afternoon hours mainly in few districts of Jammu region,” he said.
According to MeT official, the weather from September 2-10 will generally be dry with a brief spell of rain/thundershower at scattered places towards early morning & afternoon hours.
The MeT has forecast intense showers at some places on August 31 and September 1, which may trigger flash floods, mudslides and landslides in vulnerable areas.
People living in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions during periods of heavy rainfall.
The Met said the rain activity is expected to be brief and localised, while generally hot and humid conditions are likely to continue across Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, temperatures remained above normal across Jammu and Kashmir today.
Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 33.5 degrees Celsius, which was 4.6 degrees above normal.
Jammu recorded a maximum of 34.5 degrees Celsius and Kupwara registered a high of 34.2 degrees Celsius.
Qazigund recorded a maximum of 32 degrees Celsius, followed by 31.2 degrees Celsius at Kokernag and 30.4 degrees Celsius at Banihal.
Pahalgam recorded a maximum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius while in Gulmarg mercury settled at 24 degrees Celsius.
Katra recorded a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius and received 84.2 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours.
