
People advised to stay away from water bodies
The MeT department has predicted widespread rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir during next 24 hours.
“Cloud formations are currently building over North Pakistan, where much of the initial precipitation is expected to occur. However, a substantial portion of the system can still extend into J&K, resulting in good rainfall across several districts,” a MeT official said.
“From August 17-19, there is possibility of light to moderate rain and thunder at many places with intense showers and heavy rain at few places of Jammu region including Jammu, Reasi, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Samba & Kathua districts with moderate intense showers over Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and few places of Kashmir with brief intense showers and gusty winds,” the MeT official said
“From August 20-22, there will be generally hot and humid weather with brief spell of thundershower at few places. From August 23-25, fresh spell of light to moderate rain/thundershower is expected at many places with heavy rain at few places,” he said.
The MeT has issued an advisory saying there is possibility of intense, heavy Rain, thunder at few places of Jammu and Kashmir during August 17-19.
“There is a possibility of cloudburst/flash floods at few vulnerable places with landslides, mudslides, shooting stones during August 17-19,” he said.
The MeT has advised people to stay away from water bodies, streams, nallas, river embankments and loose structures, etc.
The travellers, transporters, tourists and trekkers have been advised to plan accordingly .
