The recent snowfall and rainfall in Kashmir has led to a rise in night temperatures and a dip in day temperatures with the Meteorological Department predicted another spell of snow or rain.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar on Sunday night was recorded at 4.0 degrees Celsius, which is 6.4 degrees above the seasonal normal, a MeT official said.
On contrary, the maximum temperature on Sunday settled at 6.0 degrees Celsius, 3.4 degrees below the normal, the official said.
The ski resort of Gulmarg in North Kashmir was the only weather station to record sub-zero temperatures, with the mercury settling at minus 2.4 degrees Celsius.
Despite this, the minimum temperature of the ski resort remained four degrees above normal for this time of the year.
The Pahalgam tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district recorded minimum temperature of 2.0 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the MeT official said the impact of a fresh Western Disturbance could lead to light rain or snowfall in some areas between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning, particularly in parts of north Kashmir.
“If precipitation occurs over the plains during night hours, it may briefly fall as snow as temperatures are likely to dip during that period,” he said.
The major weather system has already moved out of the region, and current weather models do not indicate any widespread or significant precipitation across most parts of the Union Territory.
However, light precipitation in higher reaches cannot be ruled out due to residual moisture in the atmosphere left behind by the earlier Western Disturbance, added the officials.
