
With the 40-day harshest winter period of ‘Chillai Kalan' nearing its end, the Meteorological department has forecast a week of wet weather starting Wednesday evening.
The 40-day-long harshest period of winter known as "Chillai Kalan," in the Valley, which starts on January 21, is set to conclude on January 30.
The Chilai Kalan largely remained dry, except for two brief spells of snowfall.
The MeT office said the weather will generally remain cloudy with the possibility of widespread rain and snow over Jammu and Kashmir this afternoon.
It said there are chances of fairly widespread light to moderate rain, snow, and thunderstorms on Thursday.
“The weather generally will remain dry and cloudy with the possibility of light rain and snow over the isolated reaches on Friday while another fairly widespread spell of rain and snow is possible on Saturday,” the MeT office said.
The wet weather will continue till February 4 with the forecast of widespread rain and snow over Jammu and Kashmir on February 3.
Meanwhile, the night temperature significantly improved amid cloud cover in the Kashmir Valley on Wednesday.
The minimum temperature recorded in Srinagar during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday was 1.9°C.
The minimum temperature in tourist resort of Pahalgam settled at -0.8°C and the ski resort of Gulmarg at -2.5°C.
