Srinagar, Mar 25: Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Javid Ahmad Dar, inaugurated the state-of-the-art Small Ruminant Hospital Complex at Lal Mandi, Srinagar, aimed at strengthening veterinary infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.
The facility, equipped with a modern Operation Theatre and Digital X-ray unit, will serve as a referral centre providing advanced clinical and surgical care for sheep and goats, benefiting farmers across the Kashmir Valley. Minister Dar said the hospital reflects the government’s commitment to modernizing livestock healthcare, enhancing productivity, and supporting rural livelihoods.
“This facility will improve disease diagnosis and treatment and help farmers achieve better returns from their livestock,” he said, highlighting it as the second advanced hospital after the Chijhama facility in Baramulla.
Under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) and Project-24, the introduction of Embryo Transfer Technology (ETT) aims to upgrade livestock genetics, boosting breed quality and productivity in the region.
The inauguration also saw the release of a Sheep Calendar to educate farmers and stakeholders. MLA Lal Chowk, Financial Commissioner, Director of Sheep Husbandry Kashmir, and senior officials attended the ceremony.
