
Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, along with Advisor to the Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, visited Anantnag today to assess the prevailing flood situation and review preparedness measures.
The Minister and Advisor visited the flood gauge station at Sangam, where they were briefed by officials from the Irrigation & Flood Control Department on current discharge levels, forecasts, and precautionary measures in place. The Minister emphasized the government's priority on public health and safety, directing officials to maintain round-the-clock monitoring and readiness with emergency response plans.
Nasir Aslam Wani stressed on inter-departmental coordination and real-time information sharing to ensure swift action and public awareness in case of any escalation.
Later, they chaired a review meeting at the district headquarters with officials from Anantnag and Shopian, including MLAs Altaf Ahmad Wani, Abdul Majid Larmi, Reyaz Ahmad Khan, and Zaffar Ali Khatana, Deputy Commissioner Syeed Fakhruddin Hamid, engineers from Flood Control and PHE departments, and disaster management officers. Shopian officials joined the meeting virtually.
Key directions issued included:
Hourly flood alerts to the public.
Stockpiling of ration, drinking water, and essential supplies.
Deployment of mobile medical teams in vulnerable areas.
Coordination among civil administration, police, and local volunteers.
The Minister reiterated the need to safeguard lives, urging citizens to stay calm, follow advisories, and cooperate with the administration.
