
Emphasizes emergency readiness amid rains
In response to ongoing heavy rainfall, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, conducted a series of inspection visits to key hospitals in Srinagar to assess healthcare readiness, medical supplies, and patient care services.
The Minister visited Lal Ded Hospital, Bone and Joint Hospital Barzulla, 500-bedded Paediatric Hospital Bemina, SMHS Hospital, and GMC Srinagar. She reviewed emergency services, OPDs, maternity and pediatric units, diagnostic labs, pharmacies, and overall cleanliness.
At Lal Ded Hospital, she checked equipment functionality, medicine availability, and staff attendance. She interacted with patients and their attendants to gather firsthand feedback and assured swift resolution of any shortcomings.
During her visit to Bone and Joint Hospital and the Paediatric Hospital in Bemina, the Minister emphasized timely treatment, especially amid inclement weather, and directed the hospital administrations to ensure proper arrangements for patients and their attendants.
At SMHS and GMC Srinagar, she chaired a review meeting with senior health officials, stressing the need for compassionate healthcare, robust sanitation, and 24x7 availability of medical staff. She also directed the Assistant Drug Controller to collect medicine samples from all visited hospitals for quality checks.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare ecosystem across J&K, especially in rural and underserved regions, and underscored the importance of maintaining vigilance and accountability in public health institutions.
