The human beings have been created by the Almighty Allah with unique and distinguished qualities. Due to these qualities he has been awarded the title of “Crown of Creation”. But due to the arrival of greediness, human beings have distorted and destroyed their character. We have all heard about moral degradation but we don’t realize that it is a rising menace in our society and rather we have got used to it now.
Moral degradation refers to the decline or deterioration of ethical and moral values within a society. It affects the behaviour and attitudes as well. Greed has been found the root cause of it today. A critical look on the present society reveals this cancer has strokes segregations of social interactions or absence of social responsibilities. We have degraded our society in terms manners, morals, principles etc.
We have distanced from our religious, which act as a guiding light for mankind. However, we must thank the Almighty, who has given us His book and the teachings of our Beloved Prophet (PBUH) so through which we recognize between right and wrong. Morality and religion have been going side by side. Morality has given purpose to his life.
Almighty Allah says in the Holy Quran, (“ Chapter 17, Verse 70 ”)
“And verily we have honoured the children of Adam and have carried them on the land and on sea and have provided them with things good and pure and have preferred them above all things we created, with (Adine) preference”.
Prophet Mohammad reportedly said, “ The best among you are those who are the best manners of Character. Sahih al-Bukhari 70:56)
The major causes of moral degradation in society can be summed up as under Based on observation, a significant portion of the population appears to be strongly influenced by a materialistic outlook, prioritizing change at any cost. This inclination towards materialism is identified as a contributing factor to the degradation of moral values within society. Individuals driven by an intense eagerness for wealth, cities fuelled by personal pursuits, may find themselves ignoring ethical principles. In the present era, what becomes a moralistic mind-set which highlights nothing but the relentless pursuit of wealth and a sudden of the character change and removal from all Islamic values?
The rapid pace of modern life, particularly through the advent of the internet, has given rise to a considerably changed mind-set among the youth. This dynamic trend means that forms of communication are taking new forms through new media and the restricted screen time often results in reduced interactions with family members and elders. This shift has adversely affected social interactions and bonding among family members. Unfortunately the younger generation has shown to be inclined towards materialistic job.
Additionally, moral degradation flourishes to be also contributed by the loss of moral values, highlighting the possibility of fostering unhealthy and unhealthy behaviours without ethical considerations.
We have distance from our religious literature emotional values. This has become a notable trend. Islam, in particular, emphasizes the concept of such as respect for parents. However, many individuals have adopted different kinds of disrespectful and even abusive behaviour towards them.
Disobedience of parents can be seen as one of the important signs of moral degradation. This is also indicated from the various traditions of our beloved Prophet Mohd (PBUH). He has also regarded too much importance on the behaviour towards the parents which act as a source of success in hereafter.
Moreover, we have distance from our moral and ethical values and our youth is lost in this world. Also in past enrolment in Madrassas was considered to be the best investment of parents. However, now a days they consider it wastage of time as well. A disturbing trend has been noticed by the society now. The teen age girls and boys lack the basic moral, ethical and societal values. This not only leads to the destruction of a society but also to the society.

Effects of Moral Degradation

Reduced reverence from children towards parents and other members in the society is also a warning signal. A moral degraded behaviour towards our parents will bring nothing but a sense of loss in our own behaviour.
Almighty Allah says in the Quran, Surah Bani Israil:
“Your Lord has decreed that you worship none by him. Be dutiful to your parents whether one of them or both of them attain old age in your life. Say not to them, ‘uff’ nor shout at them; “rather address them with respect”.
The repercussions of drug addiction and the use of such narcotic substances are significant. The younger generation is increasingly growing within the trap of substances abuse, impacting their ability to communicate productively with elders. It is also weakening their minds, thereby making them susceptible to various diseases which weaken their growth. “They ask you about wine and games of chance; say: in both of them are great sins and mean profits for people, but their evil is greater than their benefit”.
Now, addressing this menace through our religious and moral values becomes crucial. Religion, serving as a guiding instrument of moral conduct, offers a framework for enhancing righteousness and social integrity. By implementing these values, individuals can help bind the broken threads that social beings depend upon. By following the teachings of Islam one can shape his personality and influences them against moral degradation.
Schools can contribute considerably to preventing this grave menace by promoting religious and moral values. As moral degradation has disrupted the harmony of the society, we need to boost and promote these values through the implementation of religious concepts.

“And those who believe and do good deed will Be Residents of Paradise. They Will Be There Forever”.
In conclusion, we beseech Almighty Allah to inglut these teachings and moral values in our hearts and protect us from indulging in wrongful actions.
