The experience you carry, the knowledge you possess and the way you guide others are truly prise worthy. I am not merely wishing to list the qualities you have in abundance, but to share the experience you have given me with the readers.
Ghulam Hassan Bhat, an elderly man and my father, is full of patriotism, brotherhood, and fraternity. His story is deeply interwoven with the history and soul of the land of Kashmir. He was prominent during the period of feudalism in Kashmir and has narrated many stories of victimization and injustice from that time. At the remarkable age of 103, his presence remains a living testimony and historical evidence in Kashmir. He is a living example of numerous historical incidents and initiatives in the region.
Being the youngest son and having a deep connection and attachment to my father, it is with great honor and humility that I share the profound impact my father has had on me and the community around us. People come to meet him, and those who receive the blessings of this saint are truly lucky among us. The place of a father is important for a son’s growth, and I take this opportunity to grow like my father, with whom I share a deep bond. He is not just a parent but a living history of facts and experiences.
Despite facing serious health issues and complications over the years, he has never lost hope in the Almighty and always says, “Allah Badah Hai” (God is great). He has never missed his prayers. His commitment to his faith is unwavering. He is a regular reciter of the Holy Qur’an, and his voice has become synonymous with the most prominent prayers in our area. Despite suffering from prostate problems, he wakes up early in the morning for prayers during both harsh winters and hot summers, enduring the extreme weather like any common person. His mental and spiritual strength is a source of inspiration for all who know him, reminding us that faith can be a source of strength even in the most challenging times.
Being a religious person, my father has also been a promoter of peace and harmony. At the local level, he has been an excellent facilitator between parties involved in disputes. His role as a liaison between different groups has been invaluable. The main fame and respect he has earned come from his impartial decisions in the village, always striving to bring about understanding and reconciliation.
The experiences my father has witnessed throughout his long life are nothing short of extraordinary. He faced raiders, Pukhtoons, the struggle for independence, and witnessed the partition and the Mughal era with his own eyes. Each chapter of his life is a history, a lesson, and a story that has shaped his worldview and, by extension, mine. He has been a strong political worker who believes in democracy and loves Indian democracy. His time was during Gandhi’s era. His political work was driven by his deep grassroots connection and genuine love for the poor and marginalized. For him, politics was noble and respectable.
People often called him, Bhat Sb, in the area. His contribution for the society is very huge; he has fought for many roads and have constructed many historical road links and infrastructure. He is witnessing a small link road which has is now four-line roads. He is witnessed carrying material through water streams. He is a living example of the values of hard work, loyalty, and service.
Witnessing feudalism firsthand, he played a multifaceted role in its eradication. His support for the National Conference during the mission to dismantle feudal structures was instrumental. His efforts were not limited to politics; they extended to social reform and economic upliftment, making him a champion for justice and equality.
He has witnessed the turbulence of raiders and the changing tides of history with unwavering faith. In recent years, his religious devotion has only deepened, providing him with peace and fulfilment. His life is a remarkable journey through time, marked by resilience, faith, and an unyielding commitment to the welfare of others.
Simple life with high thinking: Speaking Persian and Urdu and understanding English was a great zeal. The foundation of my father's life has always been his faith. From a young age, he embraced the teachings of Islam with a sincerity that has only grown stronger with time. Despite the physical challenges that naturally come with age, his daily routine has remained consistent, prayers, Quran recitations, and spiritual reflection. This discipline is not just a personal practice but a source of hope and inspiration for our entire community.
His voice, reverberating with the sacred verses of the Quran, has comforted many during difficult times. Whether in moments of personal struggle or collective hardship, his prayers have been a source of solace. This spiritual leadership has made him a pillar in our neighborhood, someone people turn to for guidance and support.
