Porbandar, Jan 6: As part of the National Integration Tour, a group of students from Dimapur, Nagaland, visited the Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) SARTHAK at Porbandar Port in Gujarat. The visit offered students an immersive experience in maritime security operations, coastal defence mechanisms, and search and rescue (SAR) procedures.
During the tour, the students interacted with the Commanding Officer and crew members of ICGS SARTHAK, gaining insights into the functioning of the Coast Guard, life at sea, and the challenges faced in safeguarding India’s vast maritime boundaries. The students observed demonstrations of onboard equipment, communication systems, and rescue protocols, which highlighted the critical role of the Coast Guard in national security and humanitarian missions.
The visit aimed to inspire young minds, instil a sense of patriotism, and provide practical understanding of the Coast Guard’s operations beyond textbooks. Officials said such initiatives under the National Integration Tour help students appreciate the significance of maritime defence, teamwork, and discipline, while fostering awareness about India’s coastal security and emergency response capabilities.
The experience left a lasting impression on the students, encouraging many to consider careers in maritime services and national defence, while strengthening bonds between diverse regions of India through educational and cultural exchange.
