Srinagar, Sep 28: The XXXII National Junior Thang-Ta Championship 2026 was inaugurated today by Er. Aijaz Hussain, State Executive Member, BJP J&K; Co-Incharge, Minorities, UT of J&K; former National Vice-President, BJYM; DDC Member; and Member, Haj Committee of India, at the Multipurpose Indoor Sports Complex, Polo Ground, Srinagar.

The three-day championship, being held from September 28 to 30, has brought together more than 400 athletes from 25 States and Union Territories.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Er. Aijaz Hussain commended the organisers, athletes, coaches and officials for bringing the prestigious national event to Srinagar. He said that Jammu & Kashmir has abundant sporting talent, and concerted efforts are needed to channelise it by providing young athletes with opportunities, infrastructure and national-level platforms.
He said such championships encourage young people to take up sports, foster discipline and sportsmanship, and create opportunities for them to represent J&K and India at national and international levels.
He also underscored the importance of promoting indigenous sports and preserving India’s rich martial heritage.
The ceremony was attended by Dr. Huidrom Premkumar Singh, Grandmaster-cum-President, World Thang-Ta Federation; Ms. Chungkham Loidangleima Devi, former President, Thang-Ta Federation of India; Vinod Sharma, Vice-President, Thang-Ta Federation of India; Huidrom Kirankumar Singh, Secretary General, Thang-Ta Federation of India; and Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, Secretary, J&K Thang-Ta Association.
The championship is providing young athletes with a national platform to showcase their skill, discipline, dedication and sporting spirit, while contributing to the promotion of indigenous sports across the country.
