Srinagar, April 25: Government College for Women, Nawa Kadal in Srinagar has imposed a strict ban on the use of mobile phones and social media within its campus, aiming to maintain discipline and ensure a focused academic environment.
According to an official notification, students are prohibited from using mobile phones, recording videos or reels, and uploading any content on social media from within the college premises. The administration warned that any violation of these rules will result in immediate suspension.
The notice also restricts students from placing or receiving online orders, including food and parcels, inside the campus. During class hours, students have been instructed to keep their phones on silent mode and stored in their bags.
The college administration said the measures are necessary to uphold decorum and facilitate smooth functioning of academic activities, urging students to strictly adhere to the guidelines.
While the directive currently applies only to this institution, it could influence similar measures in other educational institutions across the region.
Comparable steps have been seen in other states as well. In Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu recently announced a phased ban on social media access for children under 13. Similarly, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah proposed restrictions on social media use for children under 16 during the 2026–27 state budget announcement.
