Srinagar, Nov 2: The ruling National Conference (NC) leadership has gone into fire fighting mode to end the dissidence of 20 of its legislators over recent cabinet reshuffle.
Sources said the party leadership has deputed senior leaders to reach out to the disgruntled legislators and prevent the differences from escalating further.
They said NC general secretary Ali Sagar, his son Salman Sagar and party MP Shami Oberoi have held discussions with some disgruntled MLAs to address their grievances.
The dissenting legislators had met at the residence of NC MLA Qaiser Jamsheed Lone in Srinagar on Friday and agreed on a charter of demands including removal of all four ministers, who have been part of the government since Omar Abdullah assumed office as CM in October 2024, fulfillment of all poll promises and aggressive stance on restoration of statehood and Article 370 and removal of CM's advisors -- Nasir Aslam Wani and Shami Oberoi.
The disgruntled MLAs have forwarded their charter of demands to party president Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah through different channels.
The disgruntled MLAs have also called for a consultative advisory group of legislators, a high-powered disciplinary committee, strengthening of the party's media and communication cell and the establishment of an election cell.
While the NC leadership is attempting to contain the dissent through consultations, the disgruntled MLAs have shown no signs of backing down on their charter of demands.
Three prominent NC leaders and MLAs Nazir Ahmed Gurezi, Mubarak Gul and Abdul Majeed Larmi have made displeasure over the first cabinet reshuffle of Omar Abdullah government public.
One of them Mubarak Gul is very upset and his workers are holding near daily protests since the cabinet reshuffle to demand his inclusion in the council of ministers.
Gul has announced that he would hold a press conference in Srinagar to air his grievances.
While the party high command appears to be in firefighting mode, sources said CM Omar Abdullah, who is in Jammu, could travel to Srinagar for a meeting with his close confidants and the party president to discuss the matter.
The dissent among the party MLAs has come at a time when the party's disgruntled MP Aga Ruhullah is set to resign from the party and MP tomorrow (Wednesday).
