Urges party workers to stand united
National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Friday claimed that the NC government achieved a lot in first year despite limited powers and urged party workers to steer clear of internal disagreements and concentrate on strengthening the organization ahead of the local body elections.
Addressing party workers on 120th birth anniversary of NC founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, the NC president said frequent public statements by party workers were harmful for the organization.
“Do not issue statements. Instead, focus on strengthening the party. Everyone is speaking, but no one is trying to understand the issues,” he said.
Cautioning that adversaries were attempting to weaken the party, he said, Opponents are trying to undermine the NC, but we must not be afraid. We need to remain united and build a stronger organization”.
Referring to reports of internal lobbying, Abdullah said he had heard of “secret discussions” over posts and positions within the party. “This is not right. Some people even speak against their own party”.
He said some people, including party members, were questioning what the government had achieved in the past year.
“But how much can be done in a year when many powers rest with the Lieutenant Governor?” he asked, noting that the government and MLAs were working to address public issues.
Abdullah claimed the NC government achieved a lot in its first year despite limited powers under the union Territory set up.
"We still have a lot to cover. Whatever we could do this year, it is before you. Our opponents will always tell you that this or that has not been done, but they will not tell you what has been achieved," he said.
The party, he said, would deliver on its promises in the next four years, stressing the importance of unity.
Abdullah also stressed the need to bring young leaders into the fold.
“We must promote youth leadership so they can take the party forward. In the coming elections, women workers, women leaders, and young people should step forward,” he said.
Reflecting on Sheikh Abdullah’s legacy, the NC president said the day served as a reminder of the late leader’s lifelong mission to empower the voiceless.
“The progress we see today is a result of Sheikh Sahib’s vision and courage. His politics was rooted in service, compassion, and justice,” he said.
He urged people to uphold Sheikh Abdullah’s ideals. “Leadership means standing with those who feel helpless. It is our duty to give them hope and ensure that no child is left behind”.
