Jammu, July 18: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized five kilograms of high-grade heroin valued at over ₹25 crore in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, in a major anti-narcotics operation near the Line of Control.
The operation was conducted in Kosalyain village of Haveli tehsil, a forward area close to the LoC, based on specific intelligence regarding a suspected cross-border drug consignment.
Officials said the heroin was allegedly smuggled from across the border and was to be moved further into the hinterland through an organised trafficking network.
The seizure, valued at more than ₹25 crore in the international market, is among the biggest heroin recoveries reported in the border district in recent years.
One suspected smuggler has been arrested in connection with the case. Investigators are now working to identify the intended recipients, cross-border handlers and the local network allegedly involved in transporting and distributing the consignment.
Security agencies have repeatedly raised concerns over the use of LoC routes for narcotics smuggling into Jammu and Kashmir. Officials have also pointed to possible links between cross-border drug trafficking and networks involved in funding anti-national activities.
Further investigation is underway.
