New UG, PG students: CUK begins student induction prog ‘Deeksharambh’

August 12, 2025 | BK News Service

The Department of Communication and Journalism (School of Media Studies), in collaboration with the Department of Information Technology (School of Engineering), Central University of Kashmir (CUK), inaugurated a weeklong Student Induction Programme (SIP) ‘Deeksharambh’ for newly admitted undergraduate and postgraduate students at the Tulmulla Campus on Monday. The programme is being conducted in both offline and online modes.
Welcoming the new batch, Prof. Shahid Rasool, Dean Academic Affairs and Dean, School of Media Studies, congratulated the students and highlighted the importance of induction in shaping their academic journey.
“The university aims to nurture not just skilled professionals but responsible citizens. ‘Deeksharambh’ is designed to help you connect with peers, faculty, and the values of this institution,” he said.
Prof. Rasool underscored that higher education should be a transformative journey, not merely a path to employment. He introduced several student-centric initiatives including Earn While Learn, Student Aid Fund, and Credit-Based Fee Structure, urging students to make full use of these opportunities.
He emphasized the need to move beyond rote learning and adopt critical thinking, logical reasoning, and meaningful knowledge application. “Our goal is to foster an environment where students are encouraged to explore, question, and create,” he said.
Prof. Mohammad Yousuf, Dean, School of Physical and Chemical Sciences and Dean, School of Engineering and Technology, also addressed the students. He stressed that education is not just about acquiring knowledge but applying it creatively and purposefully.
He assured students of the support of highly qualified and approachable faculty and encouraged them to remain proactive, disciplined, and sincere throughout their academic journey.
Earlier, Dr. Arif Nazir, Head, Department of Communication and Journalism, urged students to take advantage of the academic, co-curricular, and mentorship opportunities available.
“‘Deeksharambh’ aims to ensure not just academic orientation but also holistic personal and professional development,” he said.
Faculty members from both departments were present at the event. During the weeklong programme, controlling officers from administrative sections will brief students on university facilities and services.
