Night temperature drops in Kashmir, Gulmarg shivers at -10.4°C

After the recent snowfall, the night temperatures dropped across Kashmir with the world famous ski resort of Gulmarg shivering at -10.4°C on Thursday.

A MeT official said minimum temperature during the intervening nights of Wednesday and Thursday in Srinagar was recorded at -1.0 degrees Celsius as against 0.0 degrees Celsius during the previous night.
The ski resort of Gulmarg remained the coldest place in the Valley with the night temperature dropping to -10.4 degrees Celsius as against -9.4 degrees Celsius during the previous night.
Qazigund recorded a low of -4.4 degrees Celsius while night temperature in Kokernag settled at -5.4 degrees Celsius.
The tourist hot spot of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a low of -8.6 degrees Celsius as against -1.6 degrees Celsius during the previous night.
Kupwara recorded a low of -3.1 degrees Celsius.
The MeT official said weather is likely to remain dry over most parts of Jammu and Kashmir till February 26.
“From February 27-29, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain/snow at scattered to fairly widespread places,” he said.
While ‘Chillai-Kalan’, the 40-day harsh period of winter and 20-day-long winter period called ‘Chillai-Khurd’ has ended, Kashmir is in the middle of 10-day-long period ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (baby cold) which ends on March 1.
