NIT Srinagar commemorates Constitution Day as part of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas celebrations

 The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar observed Constitution Day on Sunday, coinciding with the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas Celebrations, in adherence to the directive from the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Dr. Kurella Swamy, the Nodal Officer for Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas Celebrations at NIT Srinagar, orchestrated the event under the guidance of the esteemed Director, Prof. (Dr.) Sudhakar Yedla.

The ceremony commenced with the lighting of candles by the Chief Guest, Incharge Registrar Prof. Atikur Rahman, Dr. Yeshwant Mehta, Dean Planning and Development, Prof. M.A. Shah from the Department of Physics, along with esteemed guests from the valley, faculty members, and students of the institute.

Dr. Yeshwant Mehta then led the assembly in reading the preamble of the Constitution of India. Following this, students delivered speeches and poems centered around the framing of the Constitution.

Faculty members, guests, and the chief guest took turns addressing the gathering, emphasizing the importance of understanding the constitution.

In his message, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) Sudhakar Yedla, highlighted the profound significance of the day, marking the inception of a new era in the country's history and emphasizing the values enshrined in the Constitution.

"The Constitution of India reflects the aspirations and dreams of a diverse and pluralistic society, seeking to secure justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity for its citizens,” he said.

In his keynote address, Incharge Registrar Prof. Atikur Rahman expressed that Constitution Day in India is not merely a celebration; it is a reaffirmation of the nation's commitment to the ideals and principles that underpin its democratic structure.

He stressed, "It is a day to reflect on the journey of the nation, acknowledge the challenges faced, and renew the pledge to uphold constitutional values for a just, inclusive, and prosperous society."

Dr. Kurella Swamy, Nodal Officer of the JJDG Celebrations, concluded the program, expressing gratitude to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Ministry of Education, Government of India, for their commendable initiative.

He extended special thanks to the Honorable Director, Prof. Sudhakar Yedla, for his invaluable encouragement and constant support for the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas Celebrations.

The Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas celebrations also included floral tributes to Bagwan Birsa Munda and other tribal freedom fighters on November 15.

Additionally, a series of seminars on Cultural Heritage, the lifestyle and role of Indian Tribals in protecting the environment were conducted on November 23, 2023, led by Dr. Anil Singhal and Dr. Shahnawaz Ahmed, Assistant Professors in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Earlier on 24 November, The Students Gymkhana, NIT Srinagar organised Constitution Day celebrations for the students of the institute.

The event was aimed at fostering a sense of civic responsibility and encouraging critical thinking among the student body.

The preamble reading and the pledge administration (both in Hindi and English) was led by Dr.Ajaz Ul Islam (HSS&M). It was followed by Debate competition on topic of whether laws should have an expiration date.

The debate was lively and engaging, with students presenting well researched arguments on both sides of the issue.
