NIT Srinagar storm into semis

Srinagar, July 6: Hosts NIT Srinagar, along with NIT Jalandhar and NIT Hamirpur, advanced to the semi-finals of the All India Inter-NIT Faculty & Staff Cricket Tournament 2026 after registering convincing quarter-final victories on Day 3 of the competition.

At the NIT Srinagar Ground, the hosts continued their unbeaten run with a commanding win over NIT Kurukshetra.
Batting first, Kurukshetra posted 123/7 in 20 overs, with Prof. Vikas Kumar top-scoring with 22. NIT Srinagar's disciplined bowling attack kept the visitors under pressure throughout the innings. Dr. Shakeel Waseem led the bowling effort with 2/25, while Dr. Mohsin (1/18), Dr. Majid Hussain (1/17), Mudasir Qadir (1/25) and Shahid Hamid (1/19) chipped in with a wicket each.
In reply, NIT Srinagar comfortably chased down the target, reaching 127/3 in just 14 overs. Dr. Ved Prakash anchored the innings with an unbeaten 50, while Aaqib Sheikh struck a quick 38. Dr. Pankaj Kumar added 16, and Shahid Hamid remained unbeaten on 11 as the hosts sealed an emphatic victory to book a place in the last four.
Dr. Ved Prakash was named Player of the Match, with the award presented by NIT Srinagar Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman.
At Ganderbal Physical College, NIT Jalandhar edged past NIT Rourkela by eight runs in a thrilling contest. Jalandhar posted 157/6, powered by Ravinder (38) and Nitin Sharma (32). Despite Subrat S's outstanding 82 off 67 balls, Rourkela finished on 149/6. Manjeet Singh claimed 2/22 for Jalandhar.
In another quarter-final, NIT Hamirpur defeated NIT Calicut by 32 runs. Hamirpur were bowled out for 107, with Manish (34) and Aman Kumar (22) making useful contributions. Calicut's Dhanesh Rambeth claimed an impressive five-wicket haul, but Hamirpur's bowlers responded brilliantly, dismissing Calicut for 75. Manish completed a fine all-round performance with 5/21, while Surender Soni picked up 3/10.
Earlier, the final round of league matches produced several notable performances.
MNIT Jaipur posted the day's highest total of 228/8 before defeating NIT Delhi by 99 runs, while MANIT Bhopal overcame NIT Raipur by 24 runs.
NIT Agartala defeated NIT Manipur by five wickets, VNIT Nagpur edged NIT Nagaland by 11 runs, and SVNIT Surat beat NIT Sikkim by 23 runs.
In the day's most one-sided result, NITK Surathkal thrashed NIT Goa by 10 wickets, chasing down 107 in just 8.3 overs without losing a wicket after restricting Goa to 106/8
