Srinagar, Oct 31: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday took a veiled dig at National Conference president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah over his recent remarks about Pakistan, accusing certain elements of attempting to push Jammu and Kashmir back towards separatism, terrorism and violence.
Without naming Abdullah, Sinha said some people were unable to accept the prevailing stability, peace and progress in Jammu and Kashmir and were speaking differently about India instead of recognising its achievements on the international stage.
"Instead of talking about India, they talk about a country where people have to stand in queues for flour. Instead of recognising India's glory, which has been established on every international platform across the world, they speak differently," Sinha said while addressing a function marking the Jammu and Kashmir union Territory Foundation Day in Srinagar.
His remarks came days after Abdullah triggered a political controversy by saying that neighbouring country was protecting the people of Kashmir by keeping the Kashmir issue alive at the international level. The BJP had termed Abdullah's remarks seditious and demanded an apology.
Responding to what appeared to be a reference to such statement, Sinha said there are people in Jammu and Kashmir who wanted to push the region back towards separatism, terrorism and violence.
"I want to tell them: understand this, because it is extremely important. There are several such people in Jammu and Kashmir, and these are the very people who want to push the region back towards separatism, terrorism and violence," he said.
The Lieutenant Governor said the people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly those in the Kashmir Valley, had now recognised such elements.
"I am happy that the common people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the people of the Kashmir Valley, have now recognised the faces of such people very well," he said, adding that ordinary citizens and young people were increasingly questioning those whom they believed had caused immense damage to the region.
