No respite from sweltering heat in J&K

There was no respite from hot and humid conditions in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday with the day temperature staying many degrees above normal.
A MeT official said Srinagar recorded the maximum temperature at 35.2°C today and it was 5.3°C above normal during this period of the season.
In the border district of Kupwara, the day temperature settled at 34.7°C, Kokernag 33.1°C, Pahalgam 29.7°C and the ski resort of Gulmarg recorded temperature of 25.7°C .
Jammu recorded the day temperature of 35.2°C, Katra 33.0°C, Bhadarwah 32.4°C, Banihal 31.2°C and Batote 29.2°C.
“There was no let up in the scorching hot and humid weather conditions that prevailed all across the Union Territory throwing the normal activities out of gear and making life miserable,” a MeT official said.
He said on July 28 to 31, the weather is likely to turn generally cloudy with intermittent spells of light to moderate rain/thundershower at scattered to fairly widespread places of Kashmir division and widespread places of Jammu division.
The weather will remain generally cloudy with spells of intermittent light to moderate rain/thundershower at many places of Kashmir division and most places of Jammu division from August 1 to 4, the MeT official said.
There is a possibility of intense showers for a brief period with possibility of landslides/mudslides and shooting stones over few vulnerable places with possibility of heavy rainfall at few places of Jammu region, he said.
