In a major step towards increasing non-fare revenue, the Jammu Division of Northern Railway has successfully allotted multipurpose stalls (MPS) at several stations including Banihal, Anantnag, Srinagar, Sangaldan, Budgam, and Baramulla through a transparent e-auction process.
The initiative will generate a total revenue of Rs. 79.43 lakh over five years. The multipurpose stalls will cater to passenger needs by offering essential items such as medicines, books, newspapers, toys, and daily-use products, significantly improving convenience at the stations.
Additionally, the SLR (Seating-cum-Luggage Rake) of train number 12414 has been allotted through e-auction for a total of Rs. 1.08 crore for three years, marking another milestone in the Division’s commercial initiatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Uchit Singhal, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu Division said, Increasing non-fare revenue while promoting local employment is perfectly aligned with our twin goals of cultural integration and financial sustainability. We are confident that these efforts will enrich the passenger experience and serve as a model for similar initiatives at other stations.
This is the first time the Division has allotted multipurpose stalls through e-auction, reflecting Indian Railways’ commitment to modernization, transparency, and optimal resource utilization. The move is also expected to promote local entrepreneurship and generate new employment opportunities across the region.
