Beerwah, Oct 23: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday inaugurated development projects worth around ₹25 crore and laid foundation stones for five additional works in Beerwah constituency of Budgam district, assuring residents that efforts would continue to address local development needs.

During his visit, Omar recalled his association with Beerwah and expressed gratitude to the people for electing him from the constituency in the 2014 Assembly elections. He said he remained committed to fulfilling the promises made to residents and would continue working for the area's development.

Among the major projects inaugurated was the reconstruction of a bridge over Nallah Sukhnaat, a long-pending demand of the local population. The Chief Minister thanked the Deputy Chief Minister and officials for facilitating the completion of the work. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to beautify the riverbanks through the development of a walking track and decks. Additionally, ₹4 crore has been earmarked for improving lanes and drainage systems across the constituency.

Addressing concerns over electricity infrastructure, Omar said the foundation stone had been laid for a new receiving station, which is expected to become operational within four to five months. He also announced plans to establish a transformer repair workshop in the area to reduce delays in restoring power supply, particularly during winter when damaged transformers often have to be transported elsewhere for repairs.

The Chief Minister said pending development works would receive attention. Responding to the demand for a stadium, he assured residents that a suitable site would be identified so the Sports Department could take up the project.

Omar also discussed concerns regarding the national highway passing through Beerwah town centre. Residents fear that diverting traffic away from the town could affect local businesses. He said the matter had been taken up with the concerned highway authorities and efforts would be made to address the concerns of the local population.

When asked about a possible Cabinet expansion and other political matters, the Chief Minister declined to comment, reiterating that his focus during the visit remained on development projects and road-related issues in Beerwah.
