Bengaluru, April 26: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday engaged with a delegation of education sector representatives in Bengaluru, highlighting the opportunities emerging from the newly notified Jammu and Kashmir Private University Act.

During the interaction, the Chief Minister invited leading institutions to invest in the Union Territory’s higher education sector and collaborate in transforming Jammu and Kashmir into a vibrant academic hub.
Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq, along with senior officials and representatives from the education sector, were present at the meeting.
The legislation—originally introduced as the Jammu and Kashmir Private Universities Bill—was passed by the J&K Legislative Assembly during the recent Budget Session. The Bill has since received assent from the Lieutenant Governor, formally becoming law.
Emphasising its significance, Abdullah noted that the new framework paves the way for reputed institutions to establish campuses in Jammu and Kashmir, fostering a modern, inclusive, and globally competitive academic ecosystem.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to creating a transparent and investor-friendly environment, aimed at attracting students, scholars, and research collaborations from across India and abroad.
