Srinagar, Oct 31: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and senior journalist Nidhi Razdan have tied the knot in an intimate wedding ceremony in Srinagar on October 30, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
According to sources, the marriage was solemnised under the Special Marriage Act at Hari Niwas Palace in Srinagar in the presence of close family members and relatives. Private family gatherings were also held in Srinagar and New Delhi to celebrate the occasion.
The couple made their marriage public on Saturday through separate social media posts, sharing photographs together. Abdullah captioned his pictures on X, "A new journey began yesterday," while Razdan wrote, "It's done bro."
The family celebrations were attended by Abdullah's parents, National Conference president and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah and Mollie Abdullah, along with his three sisters and other close relatives. Razdan's parents, veteran journalist M.K. Razdan and Sarla Razdan, were also present.
The development comes nearly three months after the Supreme Court was informed on July 31 that Omar Abdullah and his estranged wife, Payal Abdullah, had reached a mutual settlement to dissolve their marriage and withdraw pending legal proceedings.
The matter had reached the apex court after Omar Abdullah challenged a Delhi High Court decision refusing to grant him a divorce. Both parties subsequently sought dissolution of their marriage by mutual consent under Article 142 of the Constitution.
Omar and Payal Abdullah married in 1994 and have two sons, Zahir and Zamir. They had been living separately since 2009.
Razdan, 49, is a prominent television journalist who worked with NDTV for several years, anchoring programmes and covering national politics, public affairs and major developments. She was earlier married to journalist and radio storyteller Neelesh Misra in 2005; the marriage ended in divorce in 2007.
The wedding has drawn considerable attention following the couple's public announcement, bringing together two prominent names from Jammu and Kashmir's political and media circles.
