Jammu, March 27: The second leg of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly session on Friday commenced nearly after more than a month break amidst protest by NC, Congress and PDP members over killing of Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei in US and Israeli joint strike and BJP’s demand for establishment of National Law University (NLU) in Jammu.
As the house met today, MLAs of the ruling National Conference, Congress, CPI(M) and Independents, along with the opposition PDP, raised slogans against Israel to condemn the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The NC, Congress and PDP members resorted to anti-Israel sloganeering and demanded discussion on the Iran war and passage of resolution in the house condemning Khamenei’s killing.
The budget session of the assembly resumed in Jammu on March 27 after a five-week recess, following the conclusion of its first leg held from February 2 to 20.
The BJP MLAs carrying placards on ‘National Law University’ raised the issue in the House and demanded a response from the National Conference headed government.
The BJP MLAs raised slogans while seeking clarity from the government on the proposed location of the university claiming that Jammu has long been deprived of premier educational institutions and called for an immediate decision.
Amidst the pandemonium, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather adjourned the house for half an hour.
The NC members also staged a protest outside the Legislative Assembly expressing solidarity with Iran amid the ongoing Middle East crisis.
“We stand in solidarity with Iran. The entire National Conference and the J&K government stand together. As Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had earlier condemned the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, we are here today united. I have given a call attention and moved an adjournment motion,” NC MLA Tanvir Sadiq said to the media outside the House.
