Patients struggle in absence of overhead bridge linking SMHS with SSH Hospital

March 23, 2024 | BK News Service

In a frustrating ordeal for patients and their attendants, the much-needed overhead bridge connecting the Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital with its multi-specialty counterpart, the Super Specialty Hospital (SSH), remains absent, leading to significant challenges.
The proposed "Aerobridge" project, sanctioned in 2019 with the intention of facilitating seamless transfer between the two vital healthcare facilities, has shown no tangible progress, leaving patients and their families in a lurch.
Reports from the ground reveal the distressing reality faced by patients and attendants who are forced to navigate through highly congested road, often pushing stretchers or wheelchairs, to transfer between SSH and SMHS hospitals.
The absence of this crucial infrastructure exacerbates the plight of those in urgent need of specialized medical care. Despite assurances and plans laid out years ago, the lack of implementation has only added to the burden on already stressed patients and their caregivers.
Several attendants and patients have voiced their frustration, highlighting the urgent need for authorities to expedite the construction of the overhead bridge. The current situation not only compromises patient safety but also adds unnecessary stress and inconvenience to an already challenging healthcare journey.
Efforts to reach out to relevant authorities for comment on the delay in the Aerobridge project and plans for its completion remain unanswered, further deepening concerns regarding the lack of accountability in addressing crucial infrastructure needs in the healthcare sector.
As patients and their families continue to grapple with these daunting challenges, there is a growing call for immediate action to rectify this long standing issue and ensure smoother access to essential medical services between SMHS and SSH hospitals.
