Guwahati/Imphal, Aug 14: Tree plantation drives were organised across Assam and Manipur under the #EkPedMaaKeNaam campaign, bringing together soldiers, students, veterans and local residents in a collective effort to promote environmental conservation and sustainability.
In Assam, plantation activities were held at Bishnupur and Tinsukia, with participants planting saplings and highlighting the importance of protecting the environment and expanding green cover.
Similar drives were conducted across several locations in Manipur, including Maibum, Bishnupur, Aina, Veng, Khuga, Singhat and Churachandpur. Personnel of the armed forces, students, veterans and members of local communities participated enthusiastically in the initiative.
The campaign sought to strengthen public awareness about the importance of trees in maintaining ecological balance, combating environmental degradation and creating healthier surroundings for future generations.
The participation of students and young people also provided an opportunity to instil a stronger sense of environmental responsibility among the younger generation. Veterans and local residents joined the initiative, reinforcing the message that environmental protection requires sustained community participation.
The plantation drives also underscored the importance of protecting existing forests and nurturing newly planted saplings so that they survive and contribute to long-term ecological restoration.
The #EkPedMaaKeNaam initiative encourages citizens to plant trees as a tribute to their mothers and has emerged as a platform for combining environmental conservation with community participation.
Through the activities in Assam and Manipur, participants reaffirmed their commitment to creating greener communities and contributing to a more sustainable future.
