
Ahmadabad, Jan 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a three-day visit to Gujarat from January 10 to 12, engaging in a mix of religious, cultural, developmental and diplomatic programmes across Somnath, Rajkot, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, according to a government release issued on Friday.
The visit will commence in Somnath on January 10, where the Prime Minister will arrive in the evening. At around 8 pm, he will participate in Omkar Mantra chanting at the Somnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and a revered symbol of India’s civilisational heritage. A drone show will follow, showcasing the spiritual and cultural significance of the historic temple.
On January 11, the Prime Minister will take part in the Shaurya Yatra at around 9:45 am, a ceremonial procession honouring the warriors who laid down their lives defending the Somnath Temple over centuries. He will then perform darshan and pooja at the temple at around 10:15 am, followed by participation in a public programme marking Somnath Swabhiman Parv at around 11 am, celebrating national pride, cultural resurgence and historical remembrance.
Later in the day, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Rajkot to attend the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference for the Kutch and Saurashtra region. At around 1:30 pm, he will inaugurate the trade show and exhibition, and at 2 pm, he will formally inaugurate the conference at Marwadi University, addressing the gathering on the government’s vision for regional industrial growth, investment and development.
From Rajkot, the Prime Minister will proceed to Ahmedabad, where at around 5:15 pm, he will inaugurate the remaining stretch of Phase 2 of the Ahmedabad Metro, from Sector 10A to Mahatma Mandir, at the Mahatma Mandir Metro Station. The expansion is expected to significantly enhance urban connectivity and ease commuting in the city.
On January 12, Prime Minister Modi will meet Federal Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, in Ahmedabad, reflecting the growing depth of India–Germany relations. At around 9:30 am, the two leaders will visit the Sabarmati Ashram, followed by their participation in the International Kite Festival at the Sabarmati Riverfront at around 10 am.
Formal bilateral discussions will begin from 11:15 am onwards at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, where the leaders will review the progress of the India–Germany Strategic Partnership, which recently completed 25 years. Talks are expected to focus on cooperation in trade, technology, clean energy, innovation and people-to-people ties.
The visit highlights a seamless blend of India’s cultural heritage, development priorities and expanding global partnerships, with Gujarat once again emerging as a focal point for major national and international engagements.
