PM urges citizens to reclaim forgotten funds

December 11, 2025 | BK News Service

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday urged citizens across India to actively participate in the newly launched ‘Your Money, Your Right’ movement, a national initiative designed to help people reclaim long-forgotten financial assets such as unclaimed bank deposits, dormant insurance proceeds, unpaid dividends, matured postal savings, and similar entitlements.

The appeal came after the Prime Minister shared a detailed LinkedIn blog on X, highlighting the significance of recovering unclaimed money that rightfully belongs to individuals and families. “Here is a chance to convert a forgotten financial asset into a new opportunity,” he wrote, encouraging people to explore whether they or their family members have unused or unnoticed financial balances lying idle in institutions.
The initiative aims to streamline access to decades-old financial assets that often remain stuck due to outdated records, lack of nominee details, change of addresses, or simple unawareness. Many citizens are unaware that banks, insurance companies, mutual funds, and other financial bodies collectively hold thousands of crores in unclaimed funds.
Under the movement, the government is expected to integrate databases, simplify verification frameworks, and offer unified digital tools where people can check for unclaimed amounts using basic identity details.
Officials describe the initiative as a “financial empowerment drive” that not only returns money to its rightful owners but also raises awareness about prudent financial documentation, the importance of nominations, and the need to periodically track investments.
Public response has already begun building on social media, with many users sharing stories of unexpectedly recovered funds and encouraging others to verify their financial history.
The Prime Minister’s message underscores a simple but powerful truth — that wealth unnoticed is wealth unused. Through ‘Your Money, Your Right’, the government hopes to reunite citizens with their own resources, turning forgotten assets into fresh opportunities for households across India.
With the movement gaining momentum, financial institutions, community groups, and digital platforms are gearing up to support millions in reclaiming what is rightfully theirs.
