Police arrests 4 peddlers in Sopore

Sopore, June 4: In a major breakthrough under the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, police achieved significant success against drug trafficking networks by arresting 04 drug peddlers in separate operations in Sopore besides, apprehended a drug consumer in Baramulla.
In Sopore, a police party of Police Station Sopore, while conducting patrolling in the Badambagh area, intercepted three suspicious persons carrying bags who attempted to flee into nearby orchards but were tactfully apprehended. During their search, police recovered a total of 150 bottles of Codeine-based syrup from their possession. They have been identified as Irfan Ahmad Peer son of Khursheed Ahmad Peer, Ajaz Ahmad Mattoo son of Gh. Nabi Mattoo, Umer Zahoor Najar son of Zahoor Ahmad Najar, all residents of Badambagh. Similarly, during routine night naka checking at Sangrama-Seer Crossing, a party of Police Post Putkha intercepted one suspicious person identified as Majid Ashraf Khan son of Mohammad Ashraf Khan resident of Peth Seer. During his personal search, police recovered Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus capsules from his possession.
In Baramulla, Police apprehended a drug consumer during routine checking in Tangmarg and registered a case under the NDPS Act. A police party of Police Station Tangmarg at a checkpoint established near DFO Office Tangmarg intercepted a suspicious person identified as Ikhlaq Ahmad Khatana son of Ghulam Mohammad Khatana resident of Darakassi, appeared to be under the influence of intoxicating substances. Upon his personal search, incriminating articles associated with narcotic substance consumption were recovered from his possession. The accused was subsequently subjected to medical examination, during which he tested positive for Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), indicating recent consumption of cannabis-based narcotic substances.
Police reiterates its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and warns all drug peddlers that strict legal action shall continue under the NDPS Act. The public is urged to cooperate with Police and share information regarding drug-related activities to help build a safer, healthier and drug-free society.
