Police arrests 7 drug peddlers

Srinagar, May 11: In continuation of the sustained anti-drug enforcement drive under the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Police achieved a major success by apprehending seven drug peddlers in separate actions in Sopore, Anantnag and Pulwama and recovering psychotropic substances from their possession.

A police party of Police Post Warpora at a checkpoint established at Janwara Crossing intercepted two suspicious persons who tried to flee but were apprehended tactfully. During search, psychotropic substance Alprazolam tablets were recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Faisel Majeed Mir son of Abdul Majeed Mir resident of Janwara and Naseer Ahmad Lone son of Mohd Ramzan Lone resident of Hathlangoo. Similarly, Police Post Warpora during naka checking at Malpora Crossing intercepted two suspicious persons. During search, psychotropic substance Alprazolam tablets were recovered from their possession. Moreover, during patrolling in the jurisdiction of Police Post Bus Stand, a suspicious individual was intercepted and apprehended at Shalimar Colony Sopore. During search, psychotropic substance Codeine Phosphate was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Umar Javaid Tugoo son of Javaid Ahmad Tugoo resident of Noorbagh Sopore.
In Anantnag, a police party of Police Station Larnoo, during patrolling in Sirgan-Hallan crossing, intercepted a suspicious person. During search, approximately 1.442 kilograms of contraband substance in crushed form was recovered and seized as per legal procedures. The accused has been identified as Jahangir Ahmad Khan, son of Mohammad Maqbool Khan, resident of Hallan Nowbugh,
In Pulwama, a police party of Police Station Litter laid a naka near Block Office Lassipora and intercepted a motorcyclist. The motorcycle bearing registration number JK22C-1351 was subjected to search during which approximately 204 grams of charas sticks-like substance was recovered from his possession.
All the accused have been arrested and accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation have been initiated.
Police reiterated that strict enforcement against drug peddlers continues across the valley and all those involved in drug trafficking will be dealt with firmly under law.
