Srinagar, July 8: Three Over Ground Workers (OGWs) were detained in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district after a facial recognition system deployed for security during the ongoing Amarnath Yatra generated alerts about their presence, police said.

The Facial Recognition System (FRS), installed as part of the multi-layered security arrangements for the annual pilgrimage, flagged three suspicious individuals while they were passing through the Sarbal area, a police spokesperson said.
Acting on the alerts, police personnel intercepted the trio and verified their identities, following which they were identified as suspected overground workers, he said.
The three were taken into custody and further legal proceedings have been initiated, police said, without disclosing their identities or providing details of the cases linked to them.
Police said the detection reflected the growing use of technology-based surveillance to strengthen the security grid for the Amarnath Yatra and ensure the safety of pilgrims
