Police launches massive crackdown against banned JeI in Kashmir

November 13, 2025 | Ayaan Wani

Police on Wednesday launched a massive crackdown against the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) cadres in the Valley in the aftermath of the Delhi terror blast in which 12 people were killed and many others injured.

A police spokesman said a massive crackdown was launched against the banned JeI organization in Kulgam district and police carried out coordinated raids at more than 200 locations across the district.
These searches were conducted at the houses and premises of JeI members and their associates as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle networks supporting terrorism and to neutralise their ground-level influence, he said.
Police also conducted simultaneous searches on JeI cadres at more than 25 sites across Sopore, Zaingeer, and Rafiabad in north Kashmir.
JeI was declared an unlawful association on February 28, 2019, and in 2024, the union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) extended the ban under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967, for another five years.
The raids and searches against JeI cadres were also conducted at multiple locations in Awantipora, Pulwama, Anantnag and Shopian in south Kashmir, Baramulla and Bandipora in north Kashmir and Ganderbal and Budgam in central Kashmir.
The searches were based on credible intelligence inputs indicating attempts by JeI-linked elements to revive their activities under different fronts. During the operations, a significant quantity of incriminating material including documents, digital gadgets, and printed content with links to the banned organization was recovered and seized for detailed scrutiny. Several individuals were detained for questioning, police said.
The ongoing operation, which began last week, has primarily targeted former overground workers (OGWs), terror sympathisers, and relatives of militants currently based in Pakistan or Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
