To prevent misuse of mobile communication services, Police on Friday conducted special inspections of SIM card vendors in Shopian, Pulwama, Anantnag, Sopore, Awantipora & Handwara.

A police spokesperson said police launched a massive district-wide crackdown on the illegal issuance of SIM cards in Shopian.
The special drive was carried out to identify and take action against unscrupulous vendors issuing SIM cards without adhering to mandatory verification procedures, a malpractice posing serious threats to both public safety and national security.
During the operation, police teams carried out surprise inspections at multiple telecom outlets across the district.
In Pulwama, Police carried out a comprehensive verification drive of SIM vendors across the district.
“The drive was aimed at curbing any possible misuse of SIM cards and ensuring that all vendors operate strictly within the framework of law. During the verification, police teams visited multiple SIM sale outlets and franchise points across different areas of the district,” the police spokesman said.
In Anantnag, multiple police teams carried out simultaneous inspections of SIM card vendors at various locations in the district to ensure strict adherence to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) guidelines.
The special drive focused on verifying customer documentation, KYC (Know Your Customer) procedures, and vendor licensing compliance to prevent fraudulent issuance of SIM cards.
“During the inspections, vendors were sensitized about their legal obligations and were categorically warned that any negligence or violation of regulatory norms would invite stern legal action,” the police spokesman said.
In Sopore, police teams conducted simultaneous inspections of SIM vendors at various locations to ensure strict compliance with Department of Telecommunications (DoT) guidelines.
In Awantipora, police also launched a massive verification drive and searches on SIM card vendors across the Police District to prevent misuse of SIM cards for unlawful and anti-social activities.

The objective of the operation was to ensure that SIM vendors strictly adhere to guidelines, and that the documentation process for issuing new SIM cards is transparent and legitimate,” a police spokesman said.
