Srinagar, Oct 29: The Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat on Thursday said police would step up youth engagement and sporting activities to promote a drug-free and secure Jammu and Kashmir.
Talking to reporters on sidelines of an event in Srinagar, DGP Prabhat said the police would continue to organise sports activities to encourage young people to adopt healthy lifestyles and stay away from drug abuse.
“More and more youth engagement, more and more sporting activities,” he said when asked about the police's future plans.
The DGP said the broader objective was to ensure a drug-free and secure Jammu and Kashmir, where people could lead happy, healthy and prosperous lives.
“A drug-free J&K, a secure J&K and, most importantly, a very happy, healthy and prosperous J&K,” he said.
Earlier, DGP highlighted the role of sports in promoting physical fitness, mental resilience and discipline among young people.
He also expressed concern over growing dependence on smartphones and sedentary lifestyles, saying outdoor activities such as cycling could encourage people to spend less time on screens.
“Cycling is not merely about physical fitness; it also helps build mental strength, resilience and discipline,” the DGP said, congratulating the participants and winners.
Prabhat said J&K Police was organising sporting events at different levels to encourage youth participation and help steer young people away from drug abuse and gambling.
He also referred to the establishment of 28 indoor and open-air gyms across the Union Territory as part of efforts to promote fitness and healthy activities among people.
