Srinagar, Mar 17: Residents of the Nowgam area in Srinagar are facing severe electricity shortages, with frequent power outages disrupting daily life during the holy month of Ramadan. Locals said that despite repeated complaints to the authorities, there has been no visible action to restore consistent electricity supply.
Families reported that the power disruptions are affecting essential activities, including preparing iftar and suhoor meals, as well as children’s online classes. Shopkeepers and small businesses in the area also said the outages have led to losses and operational challenges.
“During Ramadan, electricity is vital for daily routines, but we are left struggling with long hours of blackouts,” said a resident. “We have contacted the utility office multiple times, but no solution has been provided so far.”
Residents alleged that the local electricity distribution agency has failed to maintain supply schedules, leaving many households without power for extended periods. They warned that if the situation persists, it could escalate into a larger public grievance during the month of fasting.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the outage or timelines for restoration. Citizens are urging the government and power department to take immediate steps to ensure uninterrupted electricity, particularly during this important religious period.
The ongoing crisis highlights gaps in power infrastructure management in Srinagar, as well as the need for timely redressal mechanisms to protect residents’ welfare during critical periods like Ramadan.
