Srinagar, Mar 13: Unscheduled power cuts in the Nowgam area of Srinagar have left residents frustrated during the holy month of Ramadan, as frequent outages are disrupting daily routines, particularly during sehri and iftar hours.
Locals said the electricity supply has been highly erratic over the past several days, with sudden and prolonged power cuts being reported at different times of the day and night. The situation has made it difficult for families to prepare meals, perform household chores, and carry out religious activities during the sacred month.
Residents also complained that the outages are affecting the functioning of water pumps, further worsening the water supply situation in several localities. Shopkeepers and small business owners in the area said the frequent power cuts are impacting their work and causing financial losses.
“We understand that power demand increases during Ramadan, but unscheduled cuts without any prior notice create serious problems for people who are fasting,” said a local resident.
The residents have urged the Power Development Department (PDD) to ensure a stable electricity supply and follow a proper schedule for power distribution so that people can observe Ramadan without facing unnecessary hardship.
