Shillong, Oct 29: In a pioneering step towards emotional and social learning, Project Empathy, in collaboration with the Assam Rifles, unveiled an ambitious vision to establish The Indian Empathy Institution — a first-of-its-kind platform to integrate empathy education into schools across India.
Speaking at the “I Am With You” Empathy Art Exhibition at All Saints Hall, Shillong, representatives from Project Empathy highlighted the urgent need to reimagine the nation’s education system — one that nurtures not only intellect but also emotional intelligence, compassion, and inclusion.
The initiative, supported by Assam Rifles, underscores the role of empathy in building resilient communities, especially in regions like the North East where diversity thrives amid complex social dynamics. Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General of Assam Rifles, reaffirmed the force’s commitment to promoting harmony, understanding, and human connection beyond cultural and geographical boundaries.
The proposed Indian Empathy Institution aims to design structured empathy-learning modules, teacher training programs, and student engagement activities that make kindness a core part of the heart
