Jammu, Oct 19: Northern Railway’s Jammu Division has invited tenders to establish modern warehouses and storage facilities near Anantnag and Pampore railway stations, aiming to strengthen Kashmir’s agricultural supply chain and boost trade.
The initiative, launched under the Railways’ Cargo Related Facility (CRF) Policy dated February 14, 2026, offers private investors a 25-year lease to develop the facilities.
The proposed warehouses are expected to benefit apple growers, saffron producers and traders by providing safer storage and easier access to markets across the country. Locating the facilities close to railway stations will reduce loading and unloading costs, minimise delays and help protect perishable produce from damage.
Northern Railway officials said the project would improve freight movement, strengthen storage and logistics infrastructure, and create employment opportunities in the Valley.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, Uchit Singhal, described the proposed facilities as a major boost for Kashmir’s local produce. He said the warehouses would enhance the Railways’ freight-handling capacity while addressing storage and cold-chain challenges faced by farmers and traders dealing in apples, saffron and other perishable goods.
The Railways has also invited private participation in the project, highlighting the long-term investment opportunity offered by the 25-year lease arrangement.
Earlier this month, the Jammu Division floated a similar tender for its first warehouse facility at Bari Brahmana.
