Rain, snow continue in Kashmir

Erratic weather to continue till April 10: MeT

Srinagar, March 30: The upper reaches of the Valley received another spell of snowfall while the plains including Srinagar were lashed by moderate to heavy rains. The Meteorological Department has forecast intermittent rain and snow in the Valley till April 10.
“Moderate to heavy rainfall was recorded in many areas of South and North Kashmir today,” a MeT official said.
He said Qazigund recorded the highest rainfall of 35 mm between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, followed by Kokernag, which received 17 mm, and Pahalgam with 14 mm of rainfall.
Srinagar recorded 8.8 mm rainfall during the day, while Kupwara received 12.4 mm and Gulmarg recorded 7.8 mm rainfall.
The maximum temperatures across the Valley stayed below normal due to widespread rainfall. Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 14.3 degree Celsius, which was 4.1 deg C below normal. Qazigund recorded 14.4 deg C, 3.6 deg C below normal, while Pahalgam recorded 11.4 deg C, 4.4 deg C below normal.
Kupwara recorded a maximum temperature of 11.0 deg C, which was 7.9 deg C below normal, one of the largest departures in the Valley. Kokernag recorded 16.4 deg C, slightly below normal, while Gulmarg recorded 6.2 deg C.
According to the MeT department, the weather is likely to remain generally cloudy conditions with the possibility of brief spells of light rain or snow at a few places from March 31 to April 2
“On April 3 and 4, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy with spells of light rain or snow at scattered places, accompanied by thunder and gusty winds at some locations,” the MeT official said.
He said the weather is likely to remain partly cloudy from April 5 to April 7.
“Fresh spells of light rain and snowfall at scattered places are again expected between April 8 and April 10,” the MeT official added.
