
Srinagar, March 24: The Meteorological Department has predicted a fresh spell of rain and snowfall from March 28 night onwards.
According to a MeT official, weather on March 24 and 25 will remain generally dry across the union Territory.
“On March 26, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy with spells of light rain or snow at a few places towards the afternoon,” he said.
The MeT forecast indicates that weather conditions will remain mostly dry till the evening of March 28, after which light rain, snow, thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely at many places across Jammu and Kashmir.
“From March 29 to March 31, the region is expected to witness generally cloudy weather with the possibility of light to moderate rain in plains and snowfall over higher reaches at many places. Thunderstorms, isolated hailstorms and gusty winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph are also likely during this period,” the MeT forecast states.
The MeT has issued an advisory warning of moderate snowfall over a few higher reaches and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds at many places between the night of March 28 and March 31 forenoon.
The weather is expected to improve from April 1.
Meanwhile, light rainfall was reported at several places in Kashmir.
According to the data, Srinagar recorded 0.6 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours, while Qazigund received 1.0 mm rainfall. Pahalgam recorded 6.6 mm, Kupwara 1.2 mm, and Kokernag 4.2 mm rainfall during the same period. The ski resort of Gulmarg recorded 3.2 mm rainfall.
The minimum night temperatures were 1–3°C above normal at many places in the Kashmir division, whereas 1=4°C below normal at many places in the Jammu division. The lowest minimum temperature in the Kashmir division was recorded at Gulmarg at minus 1.4°C, while Bhaderwah recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the Jammu division at 3.4°C, the MeT department said.
