Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said that he discussed Kathua and Sopore incidents with Home Minister Amit Shah during his recent meeting with him in New Delhi.
After meeting the fire-affected family at Beehama in Ganderbal, Omar said that his meeting with the Home Minister went well.
“Multiple issues, including Kathua and Sopore incidents, were discussed. We have sought transparent probe into both the cases. We are hopeful that those involved in these incidents will be dealt with strictly,” he said.
Omar was referring to the recent deaths of civilians Waseem Ahmad Mir of Bomai, Sopore, and Makhan Din of Kathua that sparked widespread outrage.
While 25-year old Makhan Din died by suicide after allegedly being tortured by police in custody, Waseem died in Army's firing on the night of February 6 after he allegedly failed to stop at a checkpoint.
“I also discussed restoration of J&K’s Statehood and the upcoming Budget Session of J&K Assembly with him,” he said.
“Besides, several issues related to Jammu and Kashmir were also discussed during the meeting,” Omar said.
