
Rajouri, Nov 18: Government Boys Model Higher Secondary School Rajouri today hosted the inaugural ceremony of the Dr. Raj Kumar Thapa Memorial District Level Cricket Tournament on the school grounds.
The event was inaugurated by MLA Rajouri, Iftkhar Ahmed, in the presence of Additional District Development Commissioner Malikzada Sheraz Ul Haq, Assistant Commissioner Development Auqil Nuvaid and Chief Planning Officer Maqsood Ahmed, besides other district and sectoral officers.
While declaring the tournament open, MLA Iftikhar Ahmed paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Dr. Raj Kumar Thapa, recalling his selfless service and describing him as a guiding light for society. He noted that Dr. Thapa, who lost his life in a recent shelling incident, will always be remembered for his dedication and humane values.
A pledge ceremony to strengthen the fight against drug abuse was administered to all participants to mark five years of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. A signature campaign promoting a drug-free society was also launched on the occasion.
Interacting with the players, the MLA encouraged them to uphold sportsmanship, discipline and teamwork. He urged the youth to remain vigilant against drug abuse and channel their energy into nation-building through sports and constructive pursuits.
The event witnessed vibrant participation from cricket teams across various zones of the district, reflecting the region’s strong enthusiasm for sports and its commitment to social responsibility.
The tournament has been organised under the supervision of the Principal, Govt. Boys Model HSS Rajouri, Mr. Muslim Wani.
