Ranjit Singh Chib named Veteran Handball president

Jammu Feb 20: In a proud moment for Indian sports, Ranjit Singh Chib has been appointed President of the Indian Veteran Handball Association by the Handball Association India (HAI), recognizing his lifelong dedication and achievements in the game.

A retired Senior Superintendent of Police and current President of the Jammu and Kashmir Masters Games Association, Chib’s handball career spans nearly two decades (1984–2002). He represented both the Jammu and Kashmir Handball Team and the Indian National Handball Team, winning 9 gold, 10 silver, and 4 bronze medals in national championships. He was repeatedly named Best Player at Inter Zonal Championships and was honored as Best Player of the Decade by the Jammu and Kashmir Handball Association in 2002.
Chib captained India at the 7th Asian Handball Championship in Bahrain (1993) and participated in the 8th Asian Championship in Kuwait (1995), the South Asian Handball Championship in Jaipur, the International Cup in Narvorosisk, USSR (1990), and the Fajar Cup in Kirman, Iran (1996).
His contributions have earned him the Sher-i-Kashmir Sports Award (1987) and the First State Award (2006), highlighting his enduring impact on the sport.
HAI Secretary General Dr. Tejraj Singh lauded Chib’s appointment, emphasizing his experience, leadership, and commitment to developing handball across generations.
Now, as President of the Indian Veteran Handball Association, Chib will mentor veteran players, promote the sport, and inspire the next generation of athletes. His journey from decorated player to guiding administrator exemplifies leadership, dedication, and a lifelong passion for handball.
