
Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, conducted a comprehensive review of major rural development schemes in Anantnag, including MGNREGA, PMAY-G, NRLM, IWMP, RGSA, and UT Capex projects.
The meeting, attended by senior officials including DG Rural Sanitation Anu Malhotra, Mission Director NRLM Shubhra Sharma, and Director RDD Kashmir Shabir Hussain Bhat, focused on accelerating the implementation of key programmes and ensuring time-bound achievement of targets.
Reviewing MGNREGA, it was informed that 20.21 lakh person-days have been generated this fiscal. The Secretary emphasized optimal workforce utilization and the creation of durable community assets with long-term economic benefits in water conservation, land development, and infrastructure.
Under PMAY-G, 10,324 houses have been completed—marking 94% progress. Asad directed expeditious completion of remaining units and early release of pending installments to achieve the goal of Housing for All.
He called for convergence between MGNREGA and Swachh Bharat Mission–Gramin to promote integrated rural sanitation and livelihood projects. Under SBM-G, he directed strengthening door-to-door waste collection, ensuring maintenance of assets, and continuing public awareness drives for sustained sanitation practices.
Reviewing NRLM, he highlighted the scheme’s role in empowering women through Self-Help Groups (SHGs), urging expansion of livelihood opportunities, skill development, and financial inclusion. Under RGSA, it was noted that 23 of 33 Panchayat Ghars have been completed, with emphasis on continued capacity building of Panchayati Raj Institutions.
Later, the Secretary inspected ongoing works at the DDC Office Building, Kanjigund, being constructed at a cost of ₹1.68 crore, directing completion by December 15.
